A Louisiana mother was shocked to learn that instead of having twins, as she thought she was, she’d given birth to a 14-pound baby.
LaQueena Hunter Grover was convinced she was pregnant with twins, and everyone around her agreed.
“People would come up to me and say, ‘Oh I think that’s twins or even triplets. Maybe there’s another hiding behind one of the babies,’” she told WDSU.
When she finally gave birth, she was shocked to learn she was actually carrying a 14-pound boy.
“Right when the doctor was taking him out, my husband’s mouth literally just dropped,” she said. “He was like, ‘That’s a big baby.’ When he was born, he was 14 pounds 1 ounce.
I remember the nurse came running back and when she told me that, I swear, had I not been on the gurney already, I would’ve passed out right there when she said that.”
Grover’s son, Loyalty, spent 27 days in the NICU at a Louisiana hospital before finally going home. At just over 1 month old, he weighs in at almost 15 pounds and is 2 feet tall.
“He wears a size three Pamper. He’s supposed to be in a size one as a newborn. He wears 3- to 6-month-old clothes and he wears some 6- to 9-month clothes. I put on him some shorts that were for 18-month-olds,” Grover said.
Grover has three other children, all of whom were born relatively large. Her first two were born at 7 pounds and her third was born weighing 11.9 pounds.
Not only does her newborn son have a big build, he has the personality to go along with it.
“He acts like the Incredible Hulk when he does not get what he wants. He does not like to be wet. He likes to be changed immediately. And he wants to eat as soon as he gets hungry,” she said.
The story quickly went viral, with many readers expressing their shock at the size of the child.
“Gosh, that’s one huge baby,” one Daily Mail reader commented.
“What a cute big boy,” another added.
