Top American fashion designer Tom Ford said he will not be dressing Melania Trump in his clothes and revealed he has refused to work with her in the past.

While on the TV show “The View” Nov. 30 to promote his latest film, Ford, 55, was asked by host Joy Behar whether he would dress the future first lady, the Daily Mail reports.

Looking hesitant, Ford paused before answering the question, and stated: “I don’t know. I was asked to dress her quite a few years ago and I declined.”

On his reason for declining on the offer, he said: “Well, she’s not necessarily my image.”

Ford proceeded to tell Behar and other hosts that he would not dress Melania Trump when she was first lady because his clothes are “too expensive” for a first lady who has to “relate to everybody” to wear.

The designer did dress First Lady Michelle Obama back in 2011 in a one-of-a-kind ivory evening dress when the Obamas were having dinner with the royal family at Buckingham Palace. The first lady’s look included a pair of matching ivory gloves.

The price of the dress was never revealed but it is known that the price of the designer’s gowns tend to start at $5,000, with his evening wear often reaching the five-figure range.

When asked to give his opinion on the current first lady’s more expensive fashion picks, Ford said: “I thought that was appropriate and I was honored.”

According to Us Magazine, the fashion designer also said he wouldn’t have dressed former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton if she had won the presidency.

“The first lady — other than the fact that I’m a Democrat and voted for Hillary [Clinton] and [am] very sad and disappointed that she’s not in office — even had Hillary won, she shouldn’t be wearing my clothes,” he said, insisting that high political figures should remain relatable to the public.

When asked whether Melania Trump should wear less pricey clothing as first lady, Ford stated: “I’ll leave that to Melania.”
