On March 13, a 50-year-old teacher reportedly abducted his 15-year-old student, Elizabeth Thomas, and fled his home in Tennessee. The abduction occurred three days after the captor allegedly filled a prescription for Cialis, according to a federal complaint.
The drug, a vasodilator used to treat sexual dysfunction in men, was reportedly prescribed to Tad Cummins, the former teacher responsible for the abduction.
Cummins was reportedly later sited on March 13 on security camera footage at a Walmart in Oklahoma where he bought KY Jelly, among other assorted items.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation released an amber alert following Thomas’
“Investigative efforts, over the past few days, continue to reveal a troubling pattern of behavior on the part of Cummins, and indicates he potentially planned this abduction prior to [March 13],” read a TBI statement issued on March 18.
“Nothing investigators have learned about Cummins or his intentions for the young girl since issuing the AMBER alert calms the imminent concern for Elizabeth’s well-being. In fact, it only heightens it.”
Cummins is speculated to have been abusing his teaching job to groom his 15-year-old victim, according to the New York Post.
Thomas has since been found alive, unharmed and has been returned to her family. There aren’t words in the English language to describe the level of relief and elation experienced by the Thomas family,” said Jason Whatley, an attorney for the Thomas’, according to CNN.
“Now begins another hard chapter, but for now, we celebrate.”
The Thomas’ lawyer released a statement regarding her whereabouts, according to News Channel 5:
“Elizabeth Thomas is in a safe location with family and friends where she is comfortable and resting.
She is being evaluated and treated by mental health experts specializing in trauma. There is no doubt that she has suffered severe emotional trauma and that her process of recovery is just beginning.
The family is extremely grateful for the thoughts and prayers of the nation and asks sincerely for those continued prayers as Elizabeth becomes able to process the last 39 days. The family asks for privacy as this journey begins.”
Cummins was found out on April 20, following a tip-off that he was residing in a cabin in Northern California. The cabin’s caretaker was reportedly responsible for the information that led authorities to Cummins.
“I’m glad this is over,” said Cummins after he was arrested.
The kidnapper has since been taken into federal custody. There were some 1500 tips submitted to authorities in regards to Thomas’ possible whereabouts.
