Pregnant Tennessee Woman Charged With Murder Following Investigation Of Infant’s Death
Police originally responded to Wiest’s apartment April 8 after receiving a report of an unresponsive infant in the home.
Wiest was said to be living in the apartment with her boyfriend, Michael Withers. They were reportedly both home at the time.
Upon arrival, police found 59-day-old Anakin Leroy-Michael Wiest to be deceased and the body appeared to be extremely underweight, the news release said.
As part of the subsequent investigation, police sent the child’s body to the Forensic Medical Examiner’s Office in Nashville for an autopsy to determine the cause of death, according to WZTV News.
The examiner’s report indicated the infant’s death was the result of starvation and dehydration and ruled the manner of death to be homicide.
WGNS News Radio reports Detective Rick Hall submitted those findings to a Rutherford County grand jury Monday and the members returned indictments for charges of aggravated child abuse, aggravated child neglect and felony murder.
Wiest is reported to be 24 weeks pregnant with another child.chil
She is now in custody at the Rutherford County Adult Detention Center with a bond set at $100,000.
